A top adviser to the billionaire Koch brothers has joined Marco Rubio's campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.
Marc Short, president of the nonprofit Freedom Partners group that oversees the donor network of industrialists Charles and David Koch, will join the Florida senator's campaign,
The New York Times reports.
An aide to Rubio and a spokesman for Short did not respond to emails from the Times seeking comment.
Mark Holden, who chairs the Freedom Partners board, described Short as a "valued leader" who left behind a "strong" team.
The development comes as the vast Koch brothers' network continues to step up its efforts to
oppose Donald Trump's bid for the nomination.
The group has denied Trump access to its data — and recently obtained data from a report commissioned on Trump's vulnerabilities.
The network has $889 million budgeted for the 2016 election cycle, though the brothers have made no endorsement.
