Rep. Kline: Slow Down on Education Overhaul

By    |   Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:15 PM EDT

President Barack Obama is urgently pushing Congress to revamp President George W. Bush’s No Child Left Behind law, which was implemented almost 10 years ago. But Minnesota GOP Rep. John Kline, chairman of the House Education and Workforce Committee, tells the president he better slow down, The Hill reports.

kline, slow, down. education, billKline says Obama is rushing for political reasons. “I’m very much aware that 2012 is a presidential election year and presidential politics will start to dominate what goes on around here,” he told The Hill. “So there is a little bit of urgency to move, but I’m not going to rush this and do it wrong.”

He says the House will split up reauthorization of No Child Left Behind into smaller pieces, rather than putting together a huge bill like Democrats did with healthcare and financial reform.
