Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand riled up women when she asserted earlier this week that, "if it wasn't Lehman Brothers instead of Lehman Sisters, we might not have had the financial collapse."

The gross pandering played well at the Center for American Progress Ideas Festival at which the New York senator made the comments, but her comments were insulting, misogynistic and sexist. Say women.

"It was stupid, it was insulting. It is sexist," conservative radio talk show host Tammy Bruce said on Tucker Carlson's show Wednesday night on Fox News.

"And it's the argument that misogynists make. What she was referring to is a study that says because women are risk-averse, they would have taken less chances and so Lehman Brothers would have been just fine," Bruce said.

"It is gender stereotypical, it is based in sexist expectation that women are going to behave a certain way because of their sex," Bruce said. "It's insulting, it's misogynist and sexist."

Even worse, Gillibrand, speculated to be a Democratic president hopeful in 2020, lifted the line from International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde from eight years ago and again in 2012.

While Lagarde said she was kidding, Gillibrand seemed to be launching one part of her presidential platform.

"It's outright heresy to much of the progressive base that Gillibrand is aggressively courting. The idea that natural gender differences carry significant implications when it comes to job performance is enough to make a lot of progressives' heads explode. It surely won't find much favor on the campaign trail in 2020, should the senator decide to run," wrote Emily Jashinsky for the Washington Examiner.

And this from Emma Roller:

"It’s important to reflect on why this type of rhetoric around 'women's empowerment' does little to help the cause of women’s equality," Roller wrote for Splinter News.

"The idea that all women are alchemical beings who, like Glinda the Good Witch, spread good governance wherever they go is facile.

"It’s equally facile to think that hiring more female bankers to run the nation’s most crooked financial institutions would have changed the tides of history. Women are greedy, too," Roller wrote.
