Author Stephen King sent out a tweet on Sunday asking Iowans to vote against his namesake, Iowa Rep. Steve King.

“Iowans, for personal reasons I hope you’ll vote Steve King out,” the author wrote. “I’m tired of being confused with this racist dumbbell.”

Rep. King has come under renewed scrutiny over his inflammatory remarks about immigration and race, and his association with white nationalist figures in the aftermath of last week’s Pittsburgh synagogue massacre, carried out by anti-Semite Robert Bowers, in which 11 people were murdered, The Hill reported.

While King was leading his Democratic opponent J.D. Scholten by a large margin a few weeks ago in the deep-red district in the state, the congressman’s lead in polls has been cut to a single point following his latest remarks and endorsement for a Toronto mayoral candidate who had previously recited the 14-word manifesto used by Nazis, according to the Inquisitr.

Scholten has also received $641,000, donations recently, as a number of King’s sponsors have dropped out after his inflammatory remarks, and publications in his district which previously supported him are now distancing themselves.
