House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” that he is confident the Republicans can win back the majority in the House next year because the Democrats are defying the will of the American people by insisting on pushing ahead with impeachment.
McCarthy said that “If you’re one of those 31 Democrats [in a district won by President Donald Trump], you’re a little afraid with just hearing what [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi just did in putting out this timeline for articles of impeachment. She just gave up your job.”
He pointed out that in recent polls, “In these Democrat districts, 54 percent of their district are more likely to vote against you if you vote for impeachment,” emphasizing that he thinks those 31 Democrats “may be a one-termer.”
McCarthy said that “we are less than a year away before an election and the Democrats will not let the American people make the decision, they do not trust them,” adding that the Democrats realize that “If they do not impeach [Trump], they cannot beat him at the polls.
The minority leader also lambasted the Democrats for the government’s failure to have a budget, saying “The No. 1 responsibility of a majority is at first to do a budget. The Democrats didn’t even do a budget."
He stressed that “We have nine more days to go [for a deadline to fund the government] and what is the speaker talking about – impeachment,” which he said illustrated the point that “She’s more concerned about tearing the president down than bringing the country up.”
