House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy Wednesday said he was not surprised at President Donald Trump's announcement during a Tennessee speech that his administration is about to roll out a new plan for healthcare.

"In the House, we passed healthcare reform, a very good bill," the California Republican told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "It as a very good bill; one vote short in the Senate. We never gave up on this."

During his speech, Trump announced that his secretaries of Labor and Health will introduce their new plan in the next few weeks, CBS News reported.

He did not give further details on the plan.

"We repealed the individual mandate, and now we are going through administratively what we can do," said McCarthy. "We want these association plans to be able to pull together, lower the costs, have small businesses work together. We're doing that administratively as well, as long as the Democrats continue to hold back on those [items]."

There have been Democrats in California pushing for single payer healthcare plans, but such options could bring problems, said McCarthy.

"They passed a bill out of the Senate which is going to be double the cost for one year for how much California brings in totally," said McCarthy.

"They just don't care, and it doesn't help the individual for better healthcare. It doesn't provide more choice and it doesn't build the relationship between the doctor and the patient."

McCarthy also discussed the growing issues with immigration, and about moderates who are willing to go with the Democratic plan in order to get action on the Deferred Action for Childhood arrivals program.

"If you are go and sign that, which all the Democrats will and just a few Republicans, it turns the floor over to [House Minority Leader] Nancy Pelosi," said McCarthy.

"We have been in the room working together, conservatives, moderates, and others to be able to put an immigration plan together that protects our border, secures the border, ends catch and release, and deals with the DACA situation. I think we are very close to having an agreement that I think could go onto the floor."
