Kevin Brady Scolds Conservatives: 'No More Fiddling Around'

Rep. Kevin Brady had a message for conservatives Wednesday — we need your help with the first step, the plan that's on the table.

Brady, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and one of the architects of the American Healthcare Act (AHCA), told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" that no plan is going to be a clean repeal and total replace out of the gate.

"Have you seen Senate Republicans deliver 60 votes, Democrat votes, for repealing Obamacare or replacing it?" Brady said. "No one shows Democratic support for repeal and replace, so this is the moment to do both."

Further, Brady said the AHCA hits on two big conservative principles.

"We restore state control of healthcare so communities and families can be in control," he said. "We restore the free market. These are conservative ideas."

On Tuesday, Brady called the House's legislation "Obamacare gone." During his interview, he simply reminded those in opposition that the president has said "this is his plan."

"No more excuses, no more fiddling around," Brady said. "Today, we begin the repeal of Obamacare."

Brady defended against conservatives' criticism that the plan doesn't include everything out of the gate — malpractice insurance reform and selling across state lines, e.g.

This is step one, Brady said.

"We're getting around that Democratic filibuster in the Senate so this can go to the president's desk," Brady said. "We can't put everything we dream of in this, but I can tell you those are critical elements going forward."
