Kentucky state Rep. Charles Booker has a firm lead on former Marine Amy McGrath in the race for the Democratic Party's nomination to run against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., in the fall, according to a new poll released Thursday.
The online polling company Civiqs conducted the survey on behalf of progressive think tank Data for Progress and found that Booker holds a strong lead over McGrath despite the former fighter pilot’s greater fundraising and better performance in previous polls.

Booker, who is still in his first term as a state legislator, hails from Louisville, the same city where Breonna Taylor was recently shot and killed in her home after police executed a no-knock warrant at her apartment. The incident sparked protests that Booker has criticized McGrath for not attending.
Civiqs surveyed 898 registered voters in Kentucky from June 13-15, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
