President Donald Trump, who said Thursday that his former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn will be exonerated and "capable of coming back" to the administration, will be "more likely to bring him to the Oval Office or White House as his guest" to review what's happened to him, Kellyanne Conway, the counselor to the president, said Friday.
"The president stated very clearly yesterday this is the first time he's been asked that," Conway said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom," adding that what happened to the retired three-star general "should have a chilling effect on every American."
The Justice Department earlier this week released documents of internal FBI investigation notes suggesting a concerted Obama administration DOJ effort to get Flynn to admit to violating the Logan Act, get caught in a "lie," or "be fired."
In 2017, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents about his contacts with a Russian ambassador shortly before Trump’s inauguration.
Conway on Friday said former FBI agent Peter Strzok, as leader of the investigation, ex-FBI lawyer Lisa Page, with whom he was having a romantic relationship, and the "whole lot of them" at the top of the FBI misrepresented the agency's rank-and-file members with their actions.
Meanwhile, newly revealed text messages between Strzok and Page reveal that investigation notes had been altered repeatedly.
"You see the notes, you see them saying don't end Crossfire Razor," said Conway, using the code name for the FBI's investigation of Flynn. "Keep it going, why? To harass and embarrass a general who had served the nation for over three decades."
She also pointed out that when President Barack Obama was talking to then-President-Elect Trump, he warned him to worry about North Korea and Flynn, which was "just weird on its face."
"Taxpayers funded this nonsense," she said. "To try to get him fired or get him to lie, and that is a disgrace, and everybody, as the president said, should be concerned about that regardless of your political affiliation."
