President Donald Trump's revisions to his temporary travel ban still discriminates against Muslims and is "irrational" and "mean," according to Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn.
"This is a ban that was originally designed to bar people because of their religion, and it is still that," Ellison told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Tuesday. "It doesn't ban every Muslim in the world, but all the people that are banned are banned because they are Muslim.
"It's an irrational list. It's a mean list."
The new order maintains the ban on travelers from certain countries, but deletes Iraq from the list. Although the ban allows green card and visa holders to enter the U.S., Ellison criticized it for preventing people from coming to the U.S. looking for new beginnings, according to The Hill.
The congressman referred to Somalian refugees who have settled in his home state, saying, "Somalia is now going through a massive drought and a famine, and these people should be banned from getting relief through coming to the United States, because of this ban."
"This is inhumane, and it's wrong," Ellison said.
Ellison is the first Muslim elected to Congress. The second Muslim in Congress, Rep. Andre Carson of Indiana, also rebuked the travel ban, in a post on Twitter:
