Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calf., would not rule out running to be the Democratic nominee for president in 2020.

In an interview on Sunday with MSNBC's "KasieDC," Harris said "right now" she is focused on the midterms this November and "on a lot of other things," but when pressed, admitted she was not ruling out a bid for the White House in 2020.

Asked if President Donald Trump was "ruining America," Harris answered: "I think that this president is someone who enjoys dividing the country . . . I think he has sadly decided that he gets a lot of applause, and he likes the applause, when he throws red meat."

The senator stressed this type of behavior "is not the sign of a leader. A leader of a country is someone who brings people together, not tears people apart."

Harris, who was elected to the Senate in 2016, has been a vocal critic of the president's decision regarding immigration, including the recent "zero tolerance" policy that resulted in the separation of undocumented parents crossing the border from their children, according to The Hill.

Harris called the administration's policy "a crime against humanity" after visiting a migrant detention facility.

Speculation surrounding whether she will run for president in 2020 increased after Harris hired the same media company that sparked Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2016 run for the White House and her decision to spend six figures on advertisements this year, even though she is not up for reelection to the Senate until 2022, The Washington Free Beacon reported.
