Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., on Wednesday night reopened her war on former Vice President Joe Biden over his past work with segregationists when he was a member of the Senate.
Asked at the second round of Democratic presidential primary candidates' debate, Harris was asked if she agreed with Biden's contention that his past position on busing is the same as hers.
She has evicerated Biden on the issue of bussing during the Democrats' first round of debates earlier in July.
"That is simply false," she said. "And let's be very clear about this, when Vice President Biden was in the United States Senate working with segregationists to oppose bussing, which was the vehicle by which we would integrate America's public schools.
"Had I been in the Senate at that time I would have been on the other side of the aisle. Had those segregationists their way, I would not be a member of the United States Senate, Cory Booker would not be a member of the United States Senate, and President Obama would not have been in a position to nominate [Biden] to the place he holds.
"On that issue, we could not be more apart," she thundered.
"The vice president has still failed to acknowledge that it was wrong to take the position that he took at that time," she added.
