California State Attorney General Kamala Harris continues to lead in the race for retiring Sen. Barbara Boxer's seat, a new poll reveals.
But the statewide
Field Poll of 730 likely voters also finds the contest is so far being met with a big yawn in The Golden State.
Some 44 percent of 730 those quizzed saying they are undecided on who to support or do not have a preference.
But among voters who have committed, Harris, a Democrat, continues to lead.
The breakdown, according to the Field Poll, which was conducted from Dec. 15-Jan. 3, is:
- Kamala Harris: 27 percent
- Democratic Rep. Loretta Sanchez: 15 percent
- GOP Assemblyman Rocky Chavez: 7 percent
- Former state GOP party chair Duf Sundheim: 3 percent
- Former state GOP party chair Tom Del Beccaro: 3 percent
Both Harris and Sanchez are the choice of most Democrats and liberals who express a preference, while GOP and conservative voters support the three Republican hopefuls.
Harris is expected to be a tough candidate to beat because she has won statewide elections and has some significant endorsements.
