The White House has yet to name a replacement for deputy national security advisor K.T. McFarland, who is scheduled to start training for her role as U.S. ambassador to Singapore next month.

According to Politico, McFarland was supposed to depart from the National Security Council on Friday. She will instead stay on into May to help train whoever President Donald Trump brings on to fill the role.

"It will either be someone coming from the outside or a new thing where they change the role," NSC spokesman Michael Anton told Politico regarding the process for naming McFarland's replacement.

It was reported in early April that Trump nominated McFarland to the aforementioned ambassadorship. Her future on the National Security Council was unclear after Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster replaced retired Gen. Michael Flynn as national security advisor.

McFarland worked in the Reagan administration and later served as a commentator for Fox News before joining the Trump White House.
