The conservative Judicial Crisis Network has launched a $2 million ad campaign to help convince Senate Republicans to support the chamber confirming the next Supreme Court justice before the November election.
According to Axios, the group run by Carrie Severino paid for the ad to run in Colorado, Iowa, North Carolina, Utah, and Maine.
"You'll hear noise from extremists about the Supreme Court vacancy," the narrator says in the ad. "Here are the facts: Justice [Ruth Bader] Ginsburg was confirmed in 42 days. Only three Senators voted against her. Justice [Sandra Day] O'Connor was confirmed in 33 days. It was unanimous. In eight out of 10 vacancies like this, the nominee was confirmed. Democrats are shamefully trying to change the facts.
"Tell the Senate when a strong nominee is named, follow precedent. Confirm the judge."
Ginsburg died at age 87 on Friday, which has kicked off a flurry of activity in the nation's capital. President Donald Trump and some Republicans want to see a new judge confirmed before the Nov. 3 presidential election, while Democrats and some Republicans think it's too close to the election to do that.
The Judicial Crisis Network network ad will target Senate Republicans who are at risk of losing their seat in November, including Susan Collins (Maine), Cory Gardner (Colorado), and Thom Tillis (North Carolina).
According to Axios, Severino said her group will spend at least $10 million this month on lobbying for the next Supreme Court justice to be selected.
