A Democratic filibuster of President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Neil Gorsuch, would be political insanity, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., warns.
Voters in Trump-friendly states would not look kindly at the strategy when their Democratic senators came up for a vote, Graham told Fox News' "Journal Editorial Report."
"I think [filibustering Neil Gorsuch] would be dumb politically," Graham said. "There are at least 10 Democrats in Trump states that would look like not only did you lose the election, you lost your mind."
Democrats have not ruled out a filibuster, but it would be a gamble, particularly because Republicans suggest they would use the "nuclear" option — a Senate procedure that settles legislation with a majority of 51 votes, rather than a supermajority of 60, per the Independent Journal Review.
"I don't think I'm going to have to do that, but I will do whatever is necessary to make sure this president is able to choose a qualified nominee, and Neil Gorsuch is beyond qualified," Graham told Fox News.
