Missouri Republican Josh Hawley has launched a digital ad linking Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., to Senate Democrats who are against Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, The Hill is reporting.
The Hill viewed the ad, which features Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sens. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Kirsten Gillbrand, D-N.Y., voicing their opposition to Kavanaugh.
The three senators back McCaskill, who is being challenged by Hawley, Missouri's attorney general.
"These are the partisan liberals Claire McCaskill campaigns with, fundraisers with, and welcomes support from," Kelli Ford, Hawley's campaign spokeswoman, said in a statement.
"She can't have it both ways: does she support the wishes of Missourians or will she act on the wishes of her most loyal, left-wing allies?"
Hawley, who had once clerked on the Supreme Court for Chief Justice John Roberts, is focusing on Trump's selection of Kavanaugh in his campaign to unseat McCaskill.
He has strongly endorsed Trump's nomination of Kavanaugh, KCTV reported.
"Judge Kavanaugh is a remarkably qualified nominee for the Supreme Court," he said. "I have full confidence he will uphold the Constitution as the people wrote it, not impose his values from the bench.
"And that's what the people deserve. The balance of the court turns on this nomination and I applaud the President for his thoughtfulness on this decision."
And McCaskill said: "I look forward to thoroughly examining Judge Kavanaugh's record in the coming weeks as the Senate considers his nomination to replace Justice (Anthony) Kennedy."
