Dem Sen. Tester Touts 13 of His Bills Signed by Trump

Democratic Sen. Jon Tester released the first ad of his re-election campaign by touting the 13 bills of his signed into law by the No. 1 Republican, President Donald Trump.

"Washington's a mess, but that's not stopping me from getting bills to help Montana signed into law by President Trump," Tester says.

The 30-second video highlights just eight of those, which is one more than Tester has fingers; he lost three fingers in a meat-grinder as a 9-year-old.

"Eight! I'm out of fingers, but I'm not finished getting things done for Montana," Tester says to conclude the ad.

Tester is one of 10 Democratic senators trying to get re-elected in a dead-red state won by Trump by more than 10 points in 2016, a political reality not lost on the two-term senator.

"I try to keep the issues separate," Tester told The Washington Post. "That's politics. Your friend one day is your enemy the next and vice versa."

Tester is the ranking Democrat on the Veterans Affairs Committee, and eight of the 13 bills highlighted by Tester in the ad were vet-centric.

State Auditor Matt Rosendale appears to be the front-runner to square off against Tester, but he first must defeat state Sen. Albert Olszewski, businessman Troy Downing and retired district judge Russell Fagg in the GOP primary in June.
