Cheryl Chumley: 'Traitor' McCain 'Can Spend His Dying Days With Dems'

By    |   Friday, 28 July 2017 11:49 AM EDT

Sen. John McCain is a "traitor" to the conservative cause who "can spend his dying days in open friendship with Democrats he so loves," conservative columnist Cheryl Chumley wrote in a column for The Washington Times.

McCain's stunning and silent thumbs down to the Senate's skinny repeal of the Affordable Care Act early Friday proved the fatal blow to seven years of Republicans' efforts to reverse President Barack Obama's signature legislation.

The Arizona Republican returned to D.C. this week, after recent surgery to remove a brain tumor and the subsequent diagnosis of brain cancer, to be present to vote on healthcare.

Few anticipated McCain would be the senator to sink the Republicans, but Chumley says no one should be surprised.

Chumley writes that McCain, always a Republican In Name Only (RINO), had nothing to lose with brain cancer — this is it for him.

"He can spend his dying days in open friendship with the Democrats he so loves," Chumley wrote. "No more hiding in the shadows. No more feigning Republican. No more pretending to support the conservative cause. For McCain, his moment in the 'No Obamacare Repeal' sun was freeing."
