Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said Tuesday that the House of Representatives passed a disaster relief bill last week that provided "inadequate" funding for disaster aid.
Cornyn is pushing for the Senate to provide more funding for Texas and other storm-damaged areas when it starts work on the bill later this week, he said in a Tuesday Dallas News report.
The House approved $36.5 billion to provide hurricane and wildfire relief funding, according to a Thursday report in The New York Times.
Changes to the bill are "a work in progress as I speak," Cornyn said, the Dallas News reported.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott criticized the disaster relief bill last week, saying that Texas lawmakers in the House did not have a "stiff spine" in their negotiations, which did not include his $18.7 billion request for Hurricane Harvey aid, according to The Houston Chronicle.
