Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn once again ripped into colleague Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., for suggesting anyone who doesn’t oppose the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court in “complicit in the evil.”
“It sounds to me like a presidential campaign in 2020,” Cornyn said during a Tuesday interview on Fox News' “America’s Newsroom.”
“But I think there will be a contest here for the most ridiculous thing people will say about this nominee -- and unfortunately, that comment is really in the running to win the prize. We'll see.”
Cornyn and Booker are members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which opened hearings on Tuesday on Kavanaugh’s nomination.
Booker had said that Kavanaugh’s nomination “has nothing to do with politics,” according to The Hill.
“I’m here to call on folks to understand that in a moral moment, there is no neutral,” Booker had said. “In a moral moment, there is no bystanders. You are either complicit in the evil, you are either contributing to the wrong, or you are fighting against it.”
And Cornyn dismissed Democrats’ call for additional records on Kavanaugh.
“I think they know all they need to know about Judge Kavanaugh,” he said. “This is about delaying and ultimately derailing this nominee. Ultimately, I think they're disappointed that President (Donald) Trump is the one making this nomination and not President Hillary Clinton. I think that's what this is about.”
Cornyn’s criticism of Booker marked the second time he has taken him to task over the comments.
