President Donald Trump is continuing his pushback against former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s new book, saying it “is a compilation of lies.”
Trump made his latest comments in a Thursday morning tweet. The president wrote: “Bolton’s book, which is getting terrible reviews, is a compilation of lies and made up stories, all intended to make me look bad. Many of the ridiculous statements he attributes to me were never made, pure fiction. Just trying to get even for firing him like the sick puppy he is!”
Portions of Bolton's book, “The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir,” have been made public in advance of its planned Tuesday release.
The book accuses the president of misconduct by way of asking China’s President Xi Jinping to help him get reelected.
Trump, in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity Wednesday night, tore into Bolton, who had worked in the White House from April 2018 to September 2019.
"He was a washed-up guy," Trump told Hannity. "He couldn't get Senate-confirmed. So I gave him a non-Senate-confirmed position.”
