President Donald Trump on Tuesday tweeted support for incumbent Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso — though "he doesn't need any help" — as he faces five challengers in a Republican primary next month.
"He is absolutely outstanding in every way, but I hope the great people of Wyoming will go out and show their support anyway," Trump said in his post:
Barrasso, 66, was first elected to the Senate in 2006. He chairs two key Senate panels, the Environment and Public Works Committee, and the Indian Affairs Committee.
The five Republicans seeking to unseat Barrasso in the Aug. 21 primary include former Roman Catholic priest Charlie Hardy, who lost as a Democrat in a 2014 Senate race to Sen. Mike Enzi, and businessman Dave Dodson.
He switched to the GOP after announcing his run as an independent, according to local news reports.
Other challengers include: John Holtz, Anthony Van Risseghem and Roque "Rocky" De La Fuente.
The primary winner will face Democrat business executive Gary Trauner in the November general election.
