Poll: Miller Holds 7-Point Lead in Alaska Senate Race

Monday, 01 November 2010 12:04 PM EDT

Joe Miller is favored heading into the final two days of the U.S. Senate contest in Alaska, according to Public Policy Polling. The firm reports that 37 percent of voters say they will cast their votes for Miller, with 30 percent saying they'll choose Scott McAdams and 30 percent expecting to select incumbent Lisa Murkowski, who is running as a write-in candidate.

Joe Miller, Alaska, Murkowski, PPPRepublican Miller's lead is considered tenuous in some circles, however. He has the worst personal favorability numbers among the three candidates in the hotly contested race. He recently admitted to ethics violations while employed as a government attorney.

The New York Times points out that the particulars of the unique race could leave the election results unsettled for weeks or even longer if the matter goes to court.

“This race has been so unpredictable I wouldn’t write off any of the candidates yet,” Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling, said.

“Joe Miller certainly looks like the favorite but the biggest surprise in Alaska this year would be if there wasn’t a surprise,” Debnam added.
