President-elect Joe Biden has recruited at least 40 lobbyists to work for his transition team, a Wall Street Journal analysis shows.
The transition team started to form in late September, with Biden empowering general counsel Jessica Hertz to have the final say on which lobbyists could join the team.
“We have granted a handful of authorizations, including for individuals with expertise in pandemic response who recently advocated on behalf of their public interest, nonprofit employers,” a transition official wrote in a statement.
After getting pushback from progressive advocacy groups, Biden finally allowed lobbyists on the team due to the years of experience they bring as problem solvers.
“Agency review team members are well-respected in their fields and for their extensive experience in the federal agencies they review," a Biden official said to the Wall Street Journal.
