Democrats should be vigilant during the upcoming confirmation hearing for Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, former Vice President Joe Biden told reporters on Monday, according to The Hill.

"Stay in the room, demand answers and keep pointing out that they have not given the material that was expected to the committee," Biden said as he attended a Labor Day parade in Pittsburgh.

The Senate Judiciary Committee's hearing for Kavanaugh is scheduled to start Tuesday and is expected to last for several days. Biden is a former chairman of the committee.

Democrats have been particularly frustrated by the fact that they have been unable to see documents from Kavanaugh's time working as a staff secretary for former President George W. Bush.

Instead, Republicans have only requested papers from when Kavanaugh worked as a White House lawyer.

Biden’s appearance at the parade came days after he eulogized Senator John McCain during a memorial service in Arizona.

When asked about the experience on Monday, Biden said "John was like a brother to me," according to Newsweek.

"He had the same value set, and he had a difference of perspective," Biden said. "As long as you were honorable, as long as you were honest, as long as you didn’t leave anybody behind, as long as you treated people with dignity, you’d always get on with John even if you strongly disagreed with him like I did in the war in Iraq. But if in fact, if you didn't have those basic American values, then he didn't have a lot of respect for you."

Biden also spoke about the importance of labor at the parade, one of the largest in the country for the holiday, according to WPXI News.

"It's about time we restore dignity into work, it's about time we start to talk to each other like we're civilized and deal with one another with respect,” Biden said. "That's what this is about."

He emphasized that “A job is about a lot more than a paycheck. It's about your dignity, it's about your respect. It's about being able to look your kid in the eye and say honey it's going to be okay. That's what these guys fight for. That's why I'm fighting for them."
