Jim Jordan: Special Counsel Should Be Appointed to Probe FISA Warrant

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said Thursday that another special counsel ought to be appointed to investigate the warrant against Carter Page, former adviser to President Donald Trump's campaign.

"The only logical way to get to the answers for the American people is to appoint a second special counsel. And if the attorney general is not going to do it, frankly, I don't think he should be the attorney general," the congressman said on Fox News.

The FBI reportedly included the dossier assembled on Trump and his associates as evidence to obtain a warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Jordan is calling for release of the application submitted to the court for the FISA warrant, to see if it cites any research funded by Trump's opponents.

Jordan told FBI Director Christopher Wray, during his testimony on Thursday, that he suspects that an FBI agent who was fired from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation wasn't fired because he is biased against Trump, but that it "has something to do with the dossier," according to Fox News Insider.

"If you had the FBI working with the Democrats' campaign, taking opposition research and dressing it all up and turning into an intelligence document and taking it to the FISA court so they could spy on the other campaign that is as wrong as it gets," he continued.

House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., echoed Jordan on Thursday, sending a letter to senior members of the Justice Department requesting "all information presented to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) to allegedly obtain a warrant based on politically-motivated opposition research," CNS News reports.
