Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, is continuing to stoke rumors that he may run for House speaker this year if the GOP holds onto its majority in the chamber.

Jordan was asked during an appearance on Fox News about Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., and his recent admission that he has no plans to run for speaker.

"He would be a good one," Jordan said. "I've been very clear. If and when there is a race for speaker, I plan on being part of that discussion. Right now, I'm focused on doing what we told the American people we would do so we can stay in the majority and continue to do what we need to do to make this country great."

When pressed further, Jordan neglected to take the bait and reveal anything more.

"I'm focused on doing my job representing the people in the fourth district of Ohio," Jordan said. "I appreciate your question."

House Speaker Paul Ryan is not running for another term in Congress this year, which means there will be a new speaker next January when the next Congress is installed. Several Republicans have urged Jordan, a member of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees, to run.
