NJ Gubernatorial Candidate Wants Obama's Help

By    |   Friday, 13 September 2013 04:08 PM EDT

President Barack Obama is ignoring New Jersey Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono in her race against GOP Gov. Chris Christie, and she doesn't like it.

"I don’t know, I think it’d be a pretty nice part of his legacy, albeit a small part, to step in and help the underdog first all-women ticket," Buono told The Daily Beast/Newsweek.

Obama appeared to establish a close relationship with Christie during Superstorm Sandy prior to last year's election, when Christie lauded the president's leadership.

"Obama screwed her with the many Christie photo ops," Jeff Smith, who teaches political science at The New School for Social Research, told The Daily Beast/Newsweek.

A Democratic official involved with Obama's political plans told the Associated Press that the president will only campaign for Buono if her race with Christie tightens.

Christie led Buono by a whopping 24 percentage points — 50 to 26 percent — in a poll conducted by Farleigh Dickinson Aug. 21-27.
