Jeb Bush has started pounding Sen. Marco Rubio as the former Florida governor struggles to reverse his lackluster standing in the Republican presidential polls.

In an opinion piece published in the Des Moines Register newspaper, Bush, without naming him, swatted at Rubio's voting record on Capitol Hill. According to Project Vote Smart, Rubio missed 81 votes this year.

"I will fight for a new law to cut the pay of lawmakers who refuse to show up for work," Bush wrote.

"If they skip votes or miss hearings, they should have their paychecks docked — that's what happens in the private sector."

And throwing Donald Trump into his blast at Rubio, Bush continued:

"We are not going to fix a dysfunctional Washington, D.C., by electing a celebrity entertainer or D.C. senator who is either part of the problem or has proven incapable of fixing it."

Then, during a campaign stop in Bettendorf, Iowa, CNN reports, Bush continued his trashing of Rubio.

"I don't know about you, but this idea that somehow voting isn't important, I mean what are they supposed to do? They should go to the committee hearings, they should vote," he said.

Bush's rants show that after months of carefully avoiding criticism of Rubio, the gloves are off.

Especially with the Florida senator now besting him in some polls.

A new Public Policy Polling survey shows Trump still leads the GOP pack with 27 percent, followed by Dr. Ben Carson with 17 percent, Rubio with 13 percent and Bush with 10 percent.
