The Daily Beast's Washington Bureau Chief has delivered a no-nonsense message for Jeb Bush, whose poll numbers have plummeted to new lows: "Face facts. It's time to drop out."

"Jeb, this just isn't going to work. After all that money spent, you're still sagging nationally and in fourth place in New Hampshire, a state you need to win," Will Rahn writes in a scathing column published Tuesday.

"You've had nearly a year to make your case. It isn't working. You should pack it in."

Rahn argues the former Florida governor, who hopes to follow in the footsteps of his father and brother, is "a bad candidate" who will only hinder another Republican candidate in trying to beat Donald Trump.

The billionaire developer remains far ahead of the pack — and way ahead of Bush — in the latest Pew Research Center poll of possible Republican primary voters:
  • Donald Trump: 25 percent
  • Ben Carson: 16 percent
  • Carly Fiorina: 8 percent
  • Marco Rubio: 8 percent
  • Ted Cruz: 6 percent
  • Jeb Bush: 4 percent
  • Mike Huckabee: 2 percent
  • Rand Paul: 2 percent
Rahn also calls Jeb and his political family "some of the dirtiest campaigners out there."

"Every jab you get in at your fellow establishmentarians like Marco Rubio are going to be used against them by the left," Rahn says.

And Bush, by using his brother in campaign appearances to try to revive his lackluster polling, makes the Democrats' job "easy," he adds. "They'll be more than happy to attach you to his legacy, and you're doing that for them."

Rahn tells Bush that by dropping out, "you will have saved this country from the disheartening spectacle of another Bush vs. Clinton race."

He also believes Bush's problems "go well beyond" just low numbers.

"For starters, you don't seem to want the job. You're not as politically adroit as others in the race — a charge that could never be made against [Sen. John] McCain," he writes.

"And by using all that cash you've raised to tear down the other plausible nominees while simultaneously reminding everyone of your brother's failed presidency, your continued presence on the campaign trail will likely wind up helping the other side.

"So just go home, Jeb. There’s no dishonor in leaving politics behind."
