Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush praised Senate Republicans on Saturday for passing the sweeping tax-reform bill, while Hillary Clinton called on Democrats to "get to work" to defeat the GOP legislators who backed the $1.5 trillion package in next year's elections.
Bush and Clinton tweeted their positions:
The Senate approved the bill early Saturday on a 51-49 vote that generally fell along party lines and included a repeal of the Obamacare individual mandate.
No Democrats supported the legislation — and retiring Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee voted against the bill.
GOP legislators hold a slim 52-48 majority in the Senate.
Talks to work out a compromise bill are expected to begin next week between the Senate and the House of Representatives, which approved its own version of the tax bill last month.
