Jay Carney: 'Democrats Are Going To Have a Bad Election Day'

By    |   Wednesday, 29 October 2014 05:59 PM EDT

President Barack Obama's one-time press secretary Jay Carney is sticking to his predicting guns, still insisting that 2014 is going to be a rotten year for Democrats.

It's the second time in two months that Carney, 49, now a CNN senior political commentator, has predicted, "Democrats are going to have a bad election day. No matter how you slice it, Republicans are gonna pick up seats in the Senate and the House, and they may win control of the Senate." The Daily Caller posted video of the comments.

Last month, he said on CNN's State of the Union, "It's not going to be a good year for Democrats by definition. The sixth year is always particularly bad for a president's party," Politico reported.

Carney became White House press secretary under Obama in 2011 and in 2014 was replaced by the current press secretary, Josh Earnest.

Carney reacted to a new CNN/RC poll that shows 74 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the way the country is being run, insisting that nothing will change until American voters get excited about reform.

"If there were a way to get Americans who are disgusted with our gridlocked and broken political system to get excited about political reform, then you could see some change in the way that we draw our districts and pick our House members, especially, and that might improve the situation," Carney said.

"Until that happens, I think they’re gonna get more of the same."
