Former director of national intelligence James Clapper said Tuesday that White House chief of staff John Kelly reminds him of former national security adviser Mike Flynn, who resigned last year.

On "CNN Tonight," host Don Lemon asked Clapper if he thought Kelly ought to "go" following the resignation of former White House staff secretary Rob Porter, who stepped down after domestic abuse allegations made by his two ex-wives became public.

Clapper admitted that he doesn't know Kelly "well," but that the retired general was a "great marine," and that his time in the White House has taken a "sad" turn.

"To me, somewhat reminiscent of Mike Flynn, to be honest," Clapper said. "He just seems to have changed since he's fallen into the orb of the president. And it's — I — it's kind of sad, for me."

Although Kelly and other White House officials, including press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, claimed that they only learned of the allegations against Porter recently, FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee that the agency handed over their final report on Porter well before the Daily Mail broke the story, according to The Washington Post.
