Ivanka Trump defended the record of President Donald Trump as the "people's president" who fights for the middle-class worker during the last night of the Republican National Convention.
"Four years ago in Cleveland, I said President Trump would deliver for working women," Ivanka Trump said. "Four years ago I told you my father would focus on making childcare affordable and accessible."
"To my father, you are the elite, you are the only people he cares about scoring points with. If these problems were easy to solve, previous presidents would have done so. But you don't achieve different results by doing things the same way," Ivanka said.
She recalled a range of good decisions by Trump, from his trade deals to his suspension of travel from Europe once the coronavirus pandemic hit.
"He knows what he believes, and he says what he thinks," Ivanka said. "The results speak for themselves."
Ivanka said her father didn't become president to follow the status quo but to buck the trend of how past leaders governed.
"Dad, people attack you for being unconventional, but I love you for being real, and I respect you for being effective," Ivanka said. "Donald Trump didn't come to Washington to win praise from the beltway elites."
Ivanka talked about Trump's role in helping to reform the criminal justice system, fight human trafficking and support working women.
She also touted his ability to build consensus among lawmakers and public officials.
"Washington has not changed Donald Trump," Ivanka Trump said. "Donald Trump has changed Washington."
