Republicans have launched an advertising campaign against Democrats seen as most vulnerable in 2014, trying to tar them with the Internal Revenue Service scandal and Obamacare.
According to the
Washington Post, the National Republican Campaign Committee Tuesday ordered mobile billboards to be driven through the districts of Reps. Ann Kirkpatrick and Ron Barber, both of Arizona, John Barrow of Georgia, and Collin Peterson of Minnesota.
The one-day ads claim the Democratic lawmakers will "put the IRS in charge of your healthcare," a reference to Republican opposition to the IRS overseeing the taxes and penalties associated with the new healthcare law.
"Every voter in some form has come in contact with the IRS, and every family is concerned about their health care," said NRCC spokeswoman Andrea Bozek. "When you put the two together, they don’t want the people involved with the IRS scandal involved in any way with their health care."
The mobile ads that ran Tuesday targeted Democrats whose districts voted Republican in the last three presidential elections. The NRCC also plans to target House Democrats Jim Matheson of Utah, Mike McIntyre of North Carolina, and Nick J. Rahall II of West Virginia, the Post reported.
