House Democrats' investigation of phone records of President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani is "frightening" and puts all Americans' civil liberties at risk – not just the attorney for the president – according to Bernie Kerik on Newsmax TV.
"We have seen this across the country increasingly over the last several years," Kerik, former NYPD Commissioner during Rudy Giuliani's term at New York City's mayor, lamented to Wednesday's "Newsmax Now" about prosecutorial overreach.
"Especially, looking at what they've done in this scenario, where they'd subpoenaed Rudy Giuliani's records and they've made this spectacle out of him calling the White House, you know, eight times, six times, 10 times in a day: Rudy Giuliani was the president's personal attorney."
Kerik rejected the attempts to look into records of an attorney "justified" in investigating in defense of his client.
"Rudy had an obligation to talk to the president," Kerik told host John Bachman. "He had an obligation to conduct an inquiry and an investigation. He had an obligation to look at Russia and the Ukraine, and that's what he was doing. And for them to make a spectacle out of this, and to go through this process, which is pretty much a sham, I think it's pretty scary.
"If they can do it to the president, they can do it to anybody in the country, and that's pretty frightening."
