The Presidential inauguration that will take place on Jan. 20, 2021 will be unlike any other in the country’s history no matter who takes the oath of office, according to Politico.
Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies Chairman Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., will meet with the other members of the panel, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., among others. Politico notes that usually, those members of Congress would have their staffers handle most of the details regarding the inauguration, but due to the coronavirus pandemic this year, lawmakers are taking a more hands-on approach.
The inauguration will feature a much smaller crowd that usual, though the exact limit is currently uncertain. During the meeting on Thursday, an aide to former Republican House Speaker John Boehner who helped organize the 2016 inauguration presented several different options to the panel.
The meeting also included a discussion on masks, distancing measures, and mandatory testing for anyone who will be near the podium during the inauguration. The post-inauguration lunch could be moved from its usual location in Statuary Hall to Emancipation Hall in the Capitol Visitors Center, which is larger.
