The news cycle will continue to focus on President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic instead of the alleged Hunter Biden laptop scandal, according to CBS News’ John Dickerson.
During a Friday appearance on "CBS This Morning," Dickerson said former Vice President Joe Biden “has an ally in the news cycle.”
“If President Trump tries to shift the turf onto the Biden family, for the purposes of muddying Joe Biden, the news cycle keeps returning to the central piece of this campaign, which is coronavirus and the president’s response to it, and the country has a very negative view of that,” Dickerson said.
The mainstream media hasn’t paid much attention to a New York Post report that a 2015 email Hunter Biden allegedly received from a member of Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings appeared to thank him for "giving an opportunity" to meet his father, who was serving as vice president at the time.
Dickerson said the news cycle will "keep voters focused on that very bad issue for the president," referring to coronavirus, instead of discussing the laptop that allegedly belongs to Hunter Biden and the Biden family’s overseas business arrangements.
The story was censored by social media companies like Facebook and Twitter right after it was released. Several media outlets glossed over covering the topic. Biden has denied any wrongdoing and claims the allegations are a “smear campaign” against him.
