Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has launched a petition drive to demand that the Senate remain in session this summer until it successfully repeals the Affordable Care Act.
"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that the Senate will stay in session for the first two weeks of August instead of breaking for vacation," the two-time GOP presidential candidate said on his website.
"This came after 10 Republican senators sent a letter urging him to schedule more working days so they could get something done about tax reform, healthcare and the budget before the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30. That's not only the responsible thing to do, it's also the wise thing to do if they want to get re-elected.
"Their constituents have this crazy notion that doesn't seem to exist in Washington, that you should get your work finished before you go on vacation."
So Huckabee wants no recess until the Affordable Care Act is repealed by the Senate.
"I don't think Congress should take a break in August until they have repealed Obamacare and put forward something that actually helps Americans," he said.
The petition is online.
