House Republicans want Congress to go beyond the budget cuts agree to in last month’s debt-ceiling agreement.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., and others introduced legislation last week that would bring discretionary spending levels in fiscal years 2013 and 2014 under the Budget Control Act to 2012 levels, saving $27 billion in those years,
The Hill reports.
The bill has 13 co-sponsors, including Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy of California and Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price of Georgia.
"Working class families around the country are continuing to tighten their belts, and they expect Washington to do the same," Blackburn said. "The spending caps that we have put in place are a great starting point, but more must be done to regain the trust of the American people."
