A petition to force a floor vote on a "clean Obamacare repeal" bill is expected to be filed by the conservative House Freedom Caucus on Friday, Politico reports.
If the petition collects 218 signatures, it will force Speaker Paul Ryan to bring it up for a vote. The legislation, which failed in the Senate this year, would repeal Obamacare after a two-year transition period, according to Politico.
The freedom caucus has been openly discussing the petition since last month. Members have said that a straight repeal bill would send a message to the Senate and convince Republicans and Democrats to work together on a replacement, the Washington Examiner reported.
Members of the Freedom Caucus and outside conservative groups are expected to push hard to convince House lawmakers to sign the petition. Meanwhile, Politico notes it expected President Donald Trump, anxious for a healthcare victory, to weigh in on the caucus' petition.
