President Donald Trump's communications director, Hope Hicks, is set to speak with special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation team in mid-November, Politico reported.
The longtime Trump aide, who previously worked for the Trump Organization and is considered part of the president's inner circle, will talk to the investigators after Trump's trip to Asia.
"Nothing about recent events alters the White House's commitment to fully cooperate with the office of the special counsel," White House lawyer Ty Cobb told Politico on Tuesday.
Hicks hired the law firm of Robert Trout of the Trout Cacheris & Janis in August to represent her as investigations into Russian election meddling continue.
According to Politico, the continued cooperation of the White House with the investigation — despite pressure from some Trump supporters to either defund the Mueller probe or shake up the White House legal team in favor of a more combative approach — is a signal the White House is confident Trump's in no real jeopardy.
On Tuesday, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the president still supported his current legal team.
"I'm not sure how he couldn't, considering . . . all of the revelations that have taken place . . . have nothing to do with the president, have nothing to do with his campaign," she said, Politico reported.
