Reid, Dems in Battle With Greens

By    |   Thursday, 19 May 2011 10:53 AM EDT

Some environmentalists want to attack Democrats facing re-election next year who aren’t green enough in their view. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is none too happy about that, Politico reports.

The hardcore environmentalists are upset with Democrats who haven’t hewed to the orthodoxy on issues such as the Environmental Protection Agency’s climate change authorities and tax breaks for oil companies.

The League of Women Voters produced an ad attacking Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., after she voted last month to keep the EPA's rules unchanged for two years. And Sierra Club CEO Michael Brune wrote on Twitter Wednesday, after a meeting with Democratic leaders, "What do u think about holding D's accountable for votes to gut Cl Air Act/keep oil subsidies?”

Reid’s response: “I think whoever this is in the Sierra Club had better get his facts right,” the Las Vegas Sun reports. “I don’t buy the illogic of the tweet.”
