South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is expected to formally declare this summer that she’ll run for a second term as the Palmetto State’s top leader,
The State reports.
Her campaign operation is “already open in downtown Columbia and fueled with $1.5 million in contributions,’’ the newspaper says.
“A 164-person grassroots steering committee featuring state GOP chairman Chad Connelly was announced two weeks ago.’’
This week, the campaign is debuting a finance committee that includes Barry Wynn, who was finance chief for former Rep. Gresham Barrett’s 2010 gubernatorial run.
“There’s a lot of excitement about her being governor for four more years,” Wynn told The State.
The newspaper said Haley’s campaign expects she’ll be facing state Sen. Vincent Sheheen, a Democrat who lost the governor’s race in 2010.
