A pro-Trump group backed by GOP mega-donor Rebekah Mercer was not active during the healthcare debate, BuzzFeed reported Monday.
The information is odd considering the political nonprofit organized by Mercer was formed after concerns other Trump allies were not doing enough to get the White House's message across. The group, Making America Great, spent more than $1 million on ads pushing for senators to back Neil Gorsuch's Supreme Court confirmation, but since then has not done much.
David Bossie, Making America Great's original chief strategist, in May said the healthcare battle was one of the group's biggest focuses. He did not answer questions about the nonprofit when reached last Friday and would not respond to a follow-up voice mail or text message.
Things were "quiet right now," a group spokesman told BuzzFeed in early July. The White House has been in extreme disarray over the past two weeks, with the resignation of White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, the firing of newly hired communications director Anthony Scaramucci after his profanity-laced tirade, and the firing of Chief of Staff Reince Priebus.
America First Policies, a group started by Trump advisers, has backed the GOP effort to repeal and replace Obamacare, but the legislation died in the Senate last week after three Republican senators voted it down.
