Kerry, Cruz and Crist Headline Gridiron Dinner

Saturday, 08 March 2014 06:28 PM EST

Secretary of State John Kerry, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist are the headliners at this weekend's Gridiron dinner, a 129-year-old event that features political leaders and journalists poking fun at each other.

In keeping with Gridiron tradition, all three speakers will be on the receiving end of humor dished out by costumed journalist-members of the Gridiron chorus.

Kerry is subbing for President Barack Obama and Cruz is the Republican speaker, while Republican-turned Democrat Crist is representing his new party.

The evening begins with the annual "speech in the dark" by the club's president, who this year is Clark Hoyt of Bloomberg.

Every president since Grover Cleveland has attended the Gridiron dinner, which was first held in 1885.
