The new Director of National Intelligence in the Trump administration will get to bottom of “the entire Russia investigation,” and remove “politics from the equation,” diplomat and former Ambassador Richard Grenell said Sunday,
In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Grenell, who briefly served as DNI until John Ratcliffe’s appointment, said he got the process started.
“I think that this entire Russian investigation, the beginning of it, how it was developed… somebody needs to look at what is classified and whether or not that needs to come clean,” he said.
“I've coordinated with John. He's a great guy,” Grenell added. “He's really focused and smart on getting to the truth. He's removing politics from the equation, and just looking at the facts and what needs to be done, so I have great faith” in him.
According to Grenell, a so-called Deep State bias exists “on both sides of the aisle.”
“There are incredible public servants within the intelligence community, who themselves are really annoyed by the bad apples ,” he said. “There's no question that we have specific people and it's more than just a few who are in jobs, using their political bias to manipulate the process. There's no question of that and it happens on both sides of the aisle.”
Grenell also charged that the Obama administration botched the peaceful transition process after President Donald Trump was elected in 2016.
“That's why we have an election in November and an inauguration in January. It's for a peaceful transition of power,” Grenell said. “That was blown by the Obama administration and I just don't think that unmasking during the transition period is appropriate, especially at the levels that they did.
“We even had Joe Biden, the vice president of the United States at the time, unmasking in this transition period and I believe it was in January when they literally were on the down slope to Trump's inauguration. This is inappropriate.”
