Sen. Grassley Opposes Comey's Call for Independent FBI, DOJ

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, appeared to fire back at former FBI Director James Comey's call for an independent FBI and Department of Justice, saying law enforcement should not be free of constitutional oversight.

Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said "accountability to elected leaders is essential for liberty."

His comments came in a tweet on Wednesday.

Law enforcement shld NOT be independent of constitutional oversight. Like the military, FBI/DOJ accountability to ELECTED leaders is essential for liberty. We are ACCOUNTABLE to the PEOPLE in our representative govt. Hoover FBI was unaccountable/did great harm w abuses of power

Grassley's remarks followed Comey's tweet:
