A $1 million advertising blitz, touting the tax reform legislation approved by the Republican-led Congress, is being launched by the American Action Network — even as President Donald Trump's focus moves to international trade, the Washington Examiner reports.

The advertising campaign by the AAN, the political nonprofit aligned with House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., comes as congressional Republicans look to heavily promote the $1.4 trillion federal tax overhaul in advance of the midterm elections.

According to the Examiner, GOP lawmakers see the law as a key to a successful midterm.

"All across the country, working families are benefiting from the results of pro-growth tax reform, and seeing a $2,000 tax cut," AAN executive director Corry Bliss told the Examiner.

"These tax cuts, wage increases, bonuses and other employee benefits — a direct result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act — are helping working families by providing a much-needed sense of financial security. AAN will continue to tout the benefits of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act as families and workers across America continue to benefit from meaningful tax reform."

Meanwhile, Trump has appeared to shift his attention to stiff tariffs on imported aluminum and steel, the Examiner reported.

Trump said last week the government would impose a 25 percent tariff on steel imports and a 10 percent tariff on imported aluminum, The Wall Street Journal noted. However, many of the details are still not clear, the newspaper reported.

The Examiner said tariffs could start an international trade war, increasing prices of domestic goods. The website reported Republicans want Trump to reconsider.

And GOP lawmakers are continuing to push the tax cuts as their key to success in the midterm elections, the Examiner reported.

The AAN's advertising campaign is set to hit television in an effort to remind voters of the tax bill. The Examiner said it will focus on four vulnerable California seats; two Florida seats and threatened seats in Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York and other areas.
